Mills, MD, PhD, for her outstanding contributions to the field of hematology and medical oncology, with a specialized focus on gastrointestinal cancers and translational cancer research. A dedicated physician-scientist, Dr. Mills has established herself as a leader in advancing innovative treatment strategies and improving outcomes for patients facing complex malignancies.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Dr. Mills earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from California State University, Chico. She went on to complete the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, where she obtained both her Doctor of Medicine and PhD in Biomedical Science. Her doctoral research emphasized Cancer Biology and Cancer Genomics/Epigenomics, laying a strong foundation for her future work in oncology. Dr. Mills completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan in 2021, followed by a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the same institution in 2024. In 2025, she joined the faculty at the University of Michigan, where she continues to provide expert, patient-centered care.

Dr. Mills specializes in the medical treatment of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, including pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, liver cancer, and neuroendocrine tumors. She also has a particular clinical interest in cancers of unknown primary (CUP), especially those originating in the abdominal region. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Mills is deeply involved in cutting-edge research at the University of Michigan. She collaborates with leading experts, including Marina Pasca di Magliano, PhD, and Filip Bednar, MD, PhD, focusing on the epigenetics of pancreatic cancer. Her clinical research efforts are dedicated to evaluating outcomes in GI cancers and CUP, with the goal of developing novel and more effective clinical trials for patients.  She has recently been appointed as the inagural emerging scholar in clinical trials for the Rogel and Blondy Center for Pancratic Cancer.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Mills is an active member of the Ann Arbor community and values time spent with her husband and their five children. Her commitment to both her patients and her community reflects her holistic approach to medicine and leadership in healthcare.
