Robert A. Mowery earned a B.S., Industrial Management from Western Michigan University in 1965. Robert started at The Firestone Tire and Rubber Co Decatur Ill., location in the Plant Manager’s office, as the first plant manager trainee.
After returning from Vietnam, was transferred to Corp Headquarter in Akron, OH In 1971, he worked in an engineering section before moving to Human Resources and Personnel due to an expansion program in Corp Headquarters. In Corp Personnel, he was responsible for 3000 plus employees based on their needs. He specialized in policy review, department budgeting for salary reviews, hiring, employee consulting/disciplinary action and EEO requirements for corp. Robert is a decorated veteran and received the Purple Heart in 1967.
In 1985, The Firestone Tire and Rubber Co, was sold to Bridgestone Tire. Robert retired in 1986 after 25 years of service. This year he decided to become a volunteer. After becoming a Stephen’s Minister with Summa Hospital and worked within their system since 1986 and other care units. As a bilateral amputee due to his injuries, he soon learned that he could help others adjust to their life needs through his life experiences. Robert has worked for the VA in Cleveland, OH as a Certified Peer Advisor. He now works for the National Amputee Coalition as a Certified Peer Advisor within the Northeast Ohio area.
He owns 3 classic cars. One placed 2nd at Hot Rods Super National show, Summit Racing for an original, number matching 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Cuda. In his free time, he enjoys working on classic cars, fishing and hunts for wild pigs in Texas.
