Robert A. Mowery earned his B.S. in Industrial Management from Western Michigan University in 1965, laying the foundation for his successful career. He started his journey at The Firestone Tire and Rubber Co’s Decatur, Illinois location, where he joined the Plant Manager’s office as the first plant manager trainee.
Upon returning from Vietnam, Robert was transferred to the Corporate Headquarters in Akron, Ohio. In 1971, he worked in the engineering section before transitioning to Human Resources and Personnel due to an expansion program within the corporation. In his role in Corp Personnel, Robert had the responsibility of managing the needs of over 3000 employees. He specialized in policy review, department budgeting for salary reviews, hiring, employee consulting, disciplinary actions, and ensuring compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) requirements for the corporation.
Robert A. Mowery is not only a decorated veteran but also a Purple Heart recipient, having received the honor in 1967 for his service. In 1985, The Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. was sold to Bridgestone Tire, and Robert retired in 1986 after 25 years of dedicated service.
Following his retirement, Robert made the decision to become a volunteer and make a positive impact on the lives of others. He became a Stephen’s Minister with Summa Hospital in 1986, offering his support and care within their system and other care units. As a bilateral amputee due to his injuries, Robert quickly realized that he could help others navigate their own life challenges through his own experiences. He subsequently worked for the VA in Cleveland, Ohio, as a Certified Peer Advisor and currently serves as a Certified Peer Advisor for the Northeast Ohio area with the National Amputee Coalition.
Beyond his professional achievements and volunteer work, Robert A. Mowery has a passion for classic cars. He owns three remarkable vehicles, one of which placed 2nd at the Hot Rods Super National show at Summit Racing. His prized possession is an original, number-matching 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Cuda. In his free time, Robert enjoys working on classic cars, fishing, and hunting wild pigs in Texas.
