She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Davis—pursuing a concentrated study in Neurology, Physiology, and Behavior, along with a meaningful minor in Native American Studies. Dr. Kumar later earned her Doctorate of Medicine from Rush Medical College in Chicago, where she built a strong clinical foundation and developed a profound commitment to health equity and surgical innovation. She went on to complete her General Surgery Residency through the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency Program at the University of Arizona, Phoenix. There, she gained comprehensive training across a full range of surgical disciplines and advanced her expertise in complex operative techniques.
Today, Dr. Kumar is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a respected Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Her wide-ranging surgical specialties include acute care surgery, breast surgery, complex hernia repairs (inguinal, ventral, incisional, umbilical, hiatal, and paraesophageal), endocrine surgery involving the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands, gallbladder removal, soft tissue and skin mass excisions, pilonidal cyst treatment, feeding tube and port placements, and numerous advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
