Washington, DC – Born and raised in Washington, DC, Dr. Helfgott received his M.D. from George Washington University, followed by his Internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in NYC. He went on to complete his Residency in Ophthalmology at Washington Hospital Center, where he served as Chief Resident in 1976.
Dr. Helfgott is currently the President at Eye Physicians of Washington, where he specializes in Ophthalmology, with a focus on anterior segment eye surgery, including cataract, cornea, glaucoma, and refractive surgery. He is a 3rd generation Doctor and 2nd generation Ophthalmologist, with a wealth of knowledge and experience in his field.
Dr. Helfgott has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Washington Magazine multiple times throughout his career. He has also been invited to speak at numerous local, national, and international conferences, showcasing his expertise in the field of Ophthalmology.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Helfgott has contributed to the field through several publications, further solidifying his position as a thought leader in the industry. He is a Past President of the Washington DC Ophthalmologic Society and a member of the Med Star Washington Hospital Center and the American Board of Ophthalmology.
